Tracking Your Progress: How to Tell if it’s Working
from: Deb St. George - MarketingSalesCopy.comOnce you decide to implement a time management plan of action, you’ll need to check now and then to see how well it is working. After all, if your time management plan is not netting you better results then you might have to make some changes. That’s why it is so important to set goals when you schedule your time. For example, if you have decided to stop taking personal calls during working hours, are you able to tell if you are getting more done now than when you were taking personal calls during working hours?
Track Time as You would Money
You can track your time in much the same way as you do money. Not only should you have a to do list for each day, but you should also keep a log of what you actually accomplished during the day. For example, suppose you make a living writing articles and prior to implementing time management strategies, you were only able to crank out 5 articles per day. Suppose your goal is to write ten articles a day and one of the time management techniques you decided to implement was to leave the television off while you are working.
Track your progress. Now, how many articles are you writing per day? If you’ve reached your goal or are close, then that’s indicative that your time management strategy is working. But if your productivity hasn’t changed, then you may need to strategize further. With the above example in mind, suppose that despite turning the television off, you are still only writing five articles per day. Assess your situation. Do you have a young child that needs your attention? Is your phone ringing constantly? Figure out what it is that is getting in the way of your productivity and then adjust your time management strategies accordingly .
Figure out what is really Important
Young children needs lots of care and attention. It’s interesting, though, how many mothers are Internet marketers who accomplish a great deal. That’s because they budget their time wisely. They know they only have so much time in which to work, perhaps naptime or in the evening after their children are in bed and they devote that time exclusively to work. They may get some work done while their children are up playing but by and large, the bulk of it is often done while the children are asleep.
At the same time, there are lots of people who don’t have children who can’t seem to get anything done. This is often because they don’t have a plan or haven’t come up with the right time management strategies. Whichever techniques you use to manage your time wisely, be sure and test them from time to time to make sure they are working for you.
